Food Pantry

Justin has been keeping busy on Thursdays so far by volunteering at the Food Pantry. This is a weekly food bank that is a foundational part of the Fallon Nazarene community outreach program. Through the donations of Safeway, Walmart, the Northern Nevada Food Bank, and the church itself over 200 families are able to get weekly groceries. In 2010 alone over 1.2 million pounds of food have passed through the doors of the Fallon Nazarene and into the mouths of people in need. Justin has been volunteering there and really enjoys it. Each week he unloads palates of random food items such as: feta cheese, tubs of yogurt, cartons of egg nog, coffee mate liquid coffee creamer, bags of hardboiled eggs, 5lb bags of chopped onions, 3lb bags of potstickers, 10lb bags of potatoes, bags of starbucks ground coffee, packets of sardines marinated in Louisiana hot sauce, and rib eye steaks. Each week is a different collection of odds and ends but it’s all pretty great food. As it turns out, an added benefit to him volunteering besides feeling good and getting out of the 5th wheel for the day is that all volunteers have an opportunity to go through the food line at the end of the day if there are leftovers. We’ve been blessed with awesome things like coffee and creamer, bell peppers, potatoes, onions, pears, pomegranates, bagels, pizza dough, and yes, even some sardines. You’ll have to call him to ask how they are J
