Visitors
I feel so blessed because our (mine and Lola’s) husbands Justin and John came to visit us for a week!! Justin pretty much recapped our week together but here are some of my highlights. We went snorkeling in the underwater museum which is located in the marine preserve and has some truly gorgeous coral. It was neat to see a re-constructed ship wreck with cannonballs, boat hull, and even a treasure chest all settled into the sand about 15 feet down. We treated ourselves to fancy lobster dinner at Restaurant 360* and had a great time hanging out and enjoying good food and after dinner drinks. We spent two nights in a beautiful, fancy, gorgeous, airconditioned!!, fully furnished timeshare condo/house that had an infinity swimming pool, private beach, and some lovely snorkeling in the exclusive “keyhole bay.” We rented a boat one afternoon and were thus able to go snorkeling on the reef at a few places further out from what we would normally be able to reach under our own swimming power. We lay out on the dock one evening and had rum and cokes while watching the sunset and the stars come out. We passed the time one night by playing pictionary involving answers like “hemorrhoids,” “people playing pictionary,” and “worcestershire sauce.” As if my time in Roatan couldn’t get any better, the day the hubbies left, my sister Caitlin flew into town!! She had one week before starting sophomore year at Cal Poly so why not spend the last week of summer on a tropical island? We had a blast hanging out and soaking in the sun, snorkeling, and she even got to volunteer in the dentist office at the clinic where she saw extractions, root canals, teeth cleaning, and fillings. We spent some excellent afternoons in West End shopping and enjoying Monkey Lala’s on the beach. Her time was too short and at one point it looked like she was going to get a few extra days on the island pending some difficulty with her passport but, alas, they let her on the plane home anyways. Now it’s back to me, Lola, and the sand fleas.
