Before we left Olympia we had the chance to see our friends Jim and Laure one last time. We spent the weekend with them at Jims' parents house and had a wonderful time barbequing, talking, and hanging out until the wee hours of the morning.
The next week was our last in the greater Puget sound area so we made the most of it by taking a few night time hikes around our park, cleaning and prepping the trailer for travel, and going to several pubs with Blair's preceptors and surgery interns she was working with. We were really lucky and got our last bar tab paid for by a medical rep!
On Saturday August 7th we said good bye to Washington and started our trek south. We set up camp in the Hillsboro Elks parking lot. We had a blast playing shuffle board, drinking with the old timers, and preparing for the next rotation. Friday night John and Lola picked Blair and I up to head to Seattle for a night. We dropped the girls off at 330 in the AM Satudray morning so they could catch their flight to Honduras.
After dropping the girls off, John and I drove back to Portland. He went to work later that day and I started driving south after having breakfast with the one and only Sang! Sang is a friend of ours whom we met through our bible study at Cal Poly, and he is from Beaverton. We got to hang out for an hour and catch up on life, which was totally fun!
I hit the road about 2 o'clock after trying to find the dump station in Hillsboro, which was a concrete pad next to the water treatment plant where the roach coaches feel it is okay to dump all their trash and grease all over the ground, not just in the drain. I drove for several hours and around the state line tried to find a place to pull over and sleep. I pulled into a Walmart and they had NO RV OVERNIGHT signage posted everywhere. I was shocked and appalled that I could not sleep there, so I pulled into a truck stop and Sammy and I popped into the trailer and slept before the long haul to my Dads.
The next afternoon I reached my Dad's house and parked the trailer on an access road near his house. We had an amazing time that week, he got a few days off and we got to play all over the mountains. We went hiking, exploring, off roading, and photo shooting from Murphys all the was across the Sierra Nevada's to Lake Tahoe over the week. Here are a few pictures of what we saw.
I left early Saturday morning so I could make it to Garrett's birthday party. We went and had a wonderful dinner and drank lots of beer and home made cider. Waking up the next morning was a bit harder than expected, but Jake and I were able to recuperate and go chop up a tree and make a few dump runs. In between working a few jobs during the week I was in SLO I got to have dinner with family, try out a new pub called the Kilt, which is amazing, went to Pint night downtown, have more family fun, disc golf, and catch up with old friends.
I am in the bay area living with Dan for a couple nights, before I leave tomorrow morning early. We have had a fun time, yesterday we explored down town San Francisco, Fishermans Wharf, and went to the California Academy of Sciences for a 21+ night time event. The Wharf was great, Dan and I walked around and saw the submarine that I got to sleep on as a young cub scout, walked through all the shops alone the piers, and met Lindsay Wray down at the Ferry building. We all went back to her apartment and met Greg Gojkovich and Ryan Erdman and we walked to the Academy of Sciences to meet Tess Gellerman and her fiance David! We also ran into Michael and Warren Holmes in the rain forest exhibit!
Dan and I are off to go play disc golf and pick up a few sundries before my flight at o'dark stupid tomorrow morning.
Next update about Honduras from Denver!
