A few new Texas-isms I learned today to accompany the post below:
Witchadicha: This one is a fun one to say. Give it a shot! It translates to "with you, did you?" and it's used as a question such as "Ya'll ain't brung ur truck witchadicha?"
A'orta: The pronunciation sounds like "aorta" or "eh-orta" and means "they ought to." An example would be "Ehorta build a fence 'round this country (ie Texas) and keep them Californians out!"
Bakards Means backwards. Pronounced like bakcurds. I learned this while at a true Texas linedancing establishment last night, appropriately named "Big Texas", when my 80-year old dance partner Lloyd kept trying to tell me how to dance with him. He kept repeating "Ma'am, now I'm gon' be goin' bakards so don't let me hit nobody." It was awesome. Best of all he was really awed that I was out there dancing in flip flops (sadly my cowboy boots are at home with my one true life-long linedancing partner). I wanted to tell him "yeah, watch out and don't mess with California" but it just doesn't have the same ring to it!
